Oakland's brewery of today, tomorrow! Established yesterday.

Press Release

The Jack London District of Oakland is home to a growing number of coffee roasters, restaurants, bars, and of course breweries. The area is becoming one of the most walkable areas in Oakland with a view that can’t be beat. And with access via free shuttle, ferry, your choice of bike/scooter shares, and just a short walk from two BART stations, more and more folks are finding the hidden treasures that lie within the old brick buildings and industrial architecture of this unique waterfront community.

As such, four local craft brewers have joined forces and created the Jack London Brewing District, to share the spirit of cooperation and collaboration of the brewing industry with craft beer fans. The group was formed in March and is planning joint events, events with joints, collaboration brews, walking tours, block parties, and enough high fives to chap even the most wort-scalded of hands.

The founding members are Independent Brewing (444 Harrison), Federation Brewing (420 3rd Street), Original Pattern Brewing (292 4th Street), and Oakland United Beerworks (opening Summer 2018, 262 2nd Street), and we expect to add more breweries in the coming months and years as the District grows.

The District’s inaugural activity will of course be a collaboration brew. As befits a group of mad scientists thrown into a room with insufficient adult guidance, the result is a piece of delicious high-concept lunacy: a kettle-soured 100% spelt beer, with a mixed brett/brux fermentation, finished with raspberries, a portion of which is being aged in Syrah barrels. (If that sentence didn’t quite make sense to you, just know that 4 out of 4 brewers agree: it’s freaking delicious.)
